BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday said every individual had the right to freedom of expression including those who opposed the film PK. He was responding to a question seeking his opinion on the row over PK and issues thereafter.

Asked about the film, Shah said, "I don't want to comment on this, but each individual, including those opposing the film, has freedom of expression."

Shah who was here to reviewed the party membership drive in Maharashtra, has set BJP state and city units a target of 1.25 crore. Over two crore people have registered as party members in the country in the last two months. Maharashtra unit has added over two million members.

Expressing confidence that BJP would win the Delhi assembly elections with absolute majority, as well as form a government at Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said BJP had garnered the maximum vote share in Jammu and Kashmir, which was why the party wanted to form the government there.

To a question on conversions, Shah said BJP was against forceful conversions and that it was the reason why the parliamentary affairs minister had expressed a desire to bring law against such conversions. Shah said that if all parties agreed, a law would be made in this regard.

Lauding prime minister Narendra Modi for the economic policies of the NDA government, Shah said the country had witnessed record decline in inflation in the past six months and inflation based wholesale price index (WPI) had come down to zero per cent in November 2014.

Danve-Patil to head state BJP?
Shah refused to say who would be the new state BJP president. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is holding dual charge. Shah said: "Why are you doubting the abilities of our young and dynamic chief minister? We will inform you when we make the choice."

He also refused to comment on the clean chit given to him by the court in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.

Party sources meanwhile said Shah had held discussions with the core committee of the state unit and the name of Union minister Raosaheb Danve-Patil had been finalised for the post of the state unit president. It is likely to be announced soon.
