With the beginning of the Kumbh parva, the pooja paath and anusthan have also begun. An akhand jyot (continuous lamp) has been lit and this will keep burning through all the 108 days of Kumbh Mela. The akhand jyot has been set up under the guidance of Shree Shree 1008 Shree Himalaya Peethdhadhishwar Jagatguru Ramanujacharya, who is also known as Shree Himalaya Baba. The lamp was lit on July 14.

The wick for the akhand jyot was especially prepared in a factory at Kolhapur.

"The wick is 3,617-km long, which is the length from Jammu to Kanykumari. This length signifies the unity and the wholeness of the nation. The wick is prepared by many silk threads woven together, which represents the different cultures and the unity therein. The lamp is made in the shape of a lotus and is 24X24 metres. It represents the 24 varnas of Gayatri mantra which summarizes the four Vedas and the 24 elements in the human body, signifying energy. The height of the lamp is 9 feet and this symbolises the 9 dwaras, opening of the human body," said Himalaya Baba.

The lamp was lit by Himalaya Baba in the chief presence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and host of the event and former minister Baban Gholap on the day of dharma dhwaja rohan. "This lamp has been lit to pray for world peace as we believe in Vasudeva Kutubakam and for strength and unity of the nation as well as for enlightenment in people's lives," added Himalaya Baba.

On the other hand, at least 108 yadnya kund will perform the Trideva Vishwashanti mahayadnya with the offerings of 251 coconuts. The yadnya has begun at the yadnya sthal set up at Sadhugram by Gholap.

"The shakti of Trideva — Bramha Vishnu and Mahesh — is being invoked to establish peace and happiness all over," said Himalaya Baba. Pandits from Kashi have come to perform the yadnyas.
