Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta has passed strictures to all assistant commissioners, deputy municipal commissioners and heads of departments to ensure that desilting of drains in the city should happen as per the schedule drawn up by him. The civic chief has decided to pay surprise visits to these sites from next week. Hence, all officials will have to be on their toes.
On Tuesday, Mehta visited chamda wadi nullah in Bandra east, airport nullah in Santa Cruz east, Shradhhanand nullah in Vile Parle east, Majas nullah in Jogeshwari east and Vakola river.
Mehta's visit was planned by civic officials, but he warned the departments to be alert henceforth as he has planned to show up at any of the sites without intimation.
Mehta has taken desilting of city drains very seriously after the standing committee chairman criticised his approach towards the same. Mehta seems to have made the issue close to his heart and is ensuring that no lackadaisical approach is taken by officials, leading to the city having to go through hardship during the monsoon.
Deputy municipal commissioner in MC's office Ramesh Pawar and director of engineering services and project Laxman Vhatkar accompanied Mehta.
