Airfares go up post-Jet Airways shutdown

According to a study made by airline booking portal Ixigo, the fares of Mumbai-Bangalore flights have seen a spike of 19 per cent.

Flying has become all the more expensive after the Jet Airways shut its operations. There has been a rise in ticket fares with an average hike of anywhere between 10-20 per cent. According to a study made by airline booking portal Ixigo, the fares of Mumbai-Bangalore flights have seen a spike of 19 per cent. Aloke Bajpai, CEO and co-founder Ixigo said, "Capacity crunch will lead to a slight escalation of 15-20 per cent in last minute fares. However, this will not have a major impact on travellers, who are booking in advance for their summer travel." The Mumbai-Delhi sector has seen an average hike of 11 per cent in airline fares while the lowest being Mumbai-Jaipur sector at 6 per cent hike in fares. When DNA checked fares on Saturday, the travel portals showed Mumbai-Delhi return flight for April 22 at Rs 17,500 for a non-stop flight.
