After Juhu Beach, BMC illuminates six beaches at Malad

The civic body has put up around 118 street lights, each over 9 metres high, as part of the beach beautification and security measures project along six beaches in Malad (west).

After successfully illuminating Juhu beach with colourful LED lights and keeping it open for public, now the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has illuminated six beaches in Malad (west), on Sunday. Yuva Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray and Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar inaugurated the BMC's illumination project on Sunday evening.

The civic body has put up around 118 street lights, each over 9 metres high, as part of the beach beautification and security measures project along six beaches in Malad (west). The beaches where the lamp posts were installed are at Aksa, Silver, Danapani, Erangal, Marve and Manori beaches. The cost of the installing LED light posts was around Rs 2.5 crore.

A total 4.25 km stretch of six beaches in Malad (west) will be illuminated after sunset by around 118 street lights. "The visitors can also go there even after dawn as there will be ample light and they will safe," said an official from Mechanical and Electrical department of BMC.

In November last year, the BMC had installed around 100 light posts in stretch of 4.5 km of Juhu beach. The initiative was applauded by visitors as the work added beauty of the beach also made the place safer. For the first two hours, from 6.30 pm t0 8.30pm, colourful lights are played and thereafter the street light is kept on. "The footfall at Juhu beach increased after coloured light was installed and we expect the similar response in these six beaches," said the official.
