Nearly six months after the University of Mumbai accepted that it had 'issued a wrong result' to an engineering student two years after it was issued, it has now come to light that the varsity has lost the student's answer sheet.

DNA had earlier highlighted the plight of Shraddha Kalambikar, an engineering student studying at Yadavrao Tasgaonkar college in Karjat, who was a victim of the varsity's mistake. In 2015, Shraddha had failed to clear the Engineering Mechanics paper in the second semester and had reappeared for the exam in May that year. When she checked her result online, it said 'passed in the previous exam'.

However, days after the results were declared, she did not get any mark sheet from the university despite several requests and thus moved on to give her next exam thinking that the university would eventually issue her mark sheet.

In May 2017, the varsity, however, wrote to the college stating that it had amended its earlier result as per which she was declared failed in the exam. The letter stated that the earlier result belonged to another candidate who shared the same seat number with the student, a technical glitch by the varsity.

Over the last six months, Shraddha and her mother have been doing the rounds of the university's Kalina campus requesting the university to reevaluate the paper.

However, it has now come to light that the varsity has lost the student's main answer sheet. "I was told by a few officials that the answer sheet from 2015 cannot be found now and that my daughter has to write her exam again. For no fault of hers, my daughter is suffering" said Shraddha's mother.

Shraddha now plans to sue the university in court over the issue for negligence. Despite repeated calls, Arjun Ghatule, Director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation, could not be reached for a comment.

STUDENT’S PLIGHT

According to the student, Shraddha Kalambikar, the university mixed her answer sheet with another student’s, and failed her. When she asked for a reevaluation, the university said that the answer sheet has been misplaced
