While the inquiry in to the alleged irrigation scams is going on, minister of state (MoS) for water resources Vijay Shivtare has alleged another scam, involving hundreds of acres of land, by Congress-NCP leaders and informed that his department has reacquired 900 acres from bogus beneficiaries of a few irrigation projects from single taluka of Daund in Pune district.

Speaking to media persons after the review meeting of water resources department, Shivtare informed that he had studied thoroughly the land allotment for the project-affected persons in a few cases. He said that he has found out that similar modus operandi has been used by the gang of people, involving government employees, villagers and politicians to grab government land.

"There are many cases in which a particular person is handed over a land as compensation for giving away his fertile land for a government project. However, in reality the said person is found to be a fake beneficiary and without giving away any of his land, he has been given new land as compensation," said Shivtare.

He informed that he had asked an officer to inquire in to the matter and from Daund alone the government has re-acquired 900 acres of land from bogus beneficiaries. "The same modus operandi has been used in other irrigation projects as well and there could be hundreds of acres of land allotted to such fake beneficiaries. In many cases, the names of the so called beneficiaries on the 7/12 extract of the allotted land could also be bogus and actual beneficiary could be someone else," he said.

Shivtare said that both Congress and NCP leaders are involved in this since at a few places the beneficiaries are these leaders directly or at some places it is with the nexus of government employees. Shivtare informed that after bringing this to the notice of rehabilitation minister Eknath Khadse, he has asked to file the FIRs against the bogus beneficiaries so that entire chain could be busted.

Fresh tenders to be floated

All irrigation projects which are marred with controversy and scam allegations would be re-assessed and fresh tender process would be started for the same. Shivtare informed that the contracts of the contractors would be cancelled if the project is controversial and there would be re-assessment of the project both financial and physical after which there would be re-tendering for the project.
