Pakistani singer Adnan Sami has approached the Bombay high court seeking permission to furnish fresh sureties as per the condition imposed on him while granting him anticipatory bail in 2011.

In June 2011, HC had allowed Sami to travel abroad on furnishing two sureties of Rs1.5 crore.

The HC had relaxed condition of his anticipatory bail of May 2009, which said he has to seek permission from the trial court before going abroad.

Rajendra and Mittal Lodhia, who had then organised Sami’s shows abroad in 2011, had agreed to stand sureties for Sami. However, on July 17, 2013, the Lodhias withdrew their undertaking for standing as surety for Sami.

Following this, Sami’s estranged wife Sabah Galadari approached HC in November 2013, seeking that he be directed to deposit his passport with the police.

Edith De, Galadari’s advocate, said despite the sureties having withdrawn, Sami had gone abroad. This was in violation of HC order and, hence, he should be tried for contempt of court as well, said Galadari’s application.

Galadari had lodged a complaint under section 498(A) (cruelty) of the IPC on April 31, 2009, with the Oshiwara police against Sami, following which he sought anticipatory bail.

The HC, on May 26, 2009, granted him anticipatory bail on the condition that he will surrender his passport with the police. Also, before going abroad, Sami was directed to seek the court’s permission.

Justice Revati Dere has asked additional public prosecutor Manisha Tedke to take necessary instructions from the Oshiwara police. HC has kept Sami’s application for hearing on January 27.

Adnan and Galadari married in 2001 and divorced in 2004. They remarried in 2007 and separated again in 2009.
