There seem to be more legal trouble for Pakistani musician Adnan Sami. The Bombay High Court has issued him a notice on a petition filed by his ex-wife Sabah Galadari, seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against him for violating an earlier court order while granting him anticipatory bail.

Justice ML Tahilyani has also asked additional public prosecutor Manisha Tedke to take instructions from the Oshiwara police station. Vibhav Krishna, Sami’s counsel, said that they would reply to the petition once they officially receive the notice.

Galadari had lodged a complaint under section 498(A) (cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code on April 31, 2009, with the Oshiwara police station. Sami had approached the magistrate court and sessions court, which rejected his anticipatory bail.  The HC on May 26, 2009, granted him anticipatory bail on condition that he will surrender his passport to the police. Also, Sami has to seek prior permission from the court, before travelling abroad.

On June 7, 2011, the HC allowed him to travel and relaxed the condition of his anticipatory bail.

However, the HC had asked Sami to give an undertaking to get two sureties, of Rs1.5 crore. The sureties were to be given within three weeks of the order. Rajendra and Mittal Lodhia, who had then organised Sami’s shows, agreed to sureties for Sami. However, on July 17, 2013, the Lodhias withdrew their undertaking.
