For once, people were walking into a restaurant not just for the food but for the bill. When Parel eatery, Aditi restaurant, reopened on Tuesday morning, a lot of people visited it hoping they would get a bill with a message on it. However, the message was dropped from the bill. Now it only said, “Have a nice day.”

On Monday, members of the Indian Youth Congress had forcefully shut down the restaurant for printing a ‘defamatory message’ on their bills. The message on bill reads: “As per UPA govt eating money (2G, coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in AC restaurants is a luxury.” Since then, the restaurant has been the talk of the town.

And the publicity seems to have worked in the restaurant’s favour. People were waiting for a table in spite of the heavy downpour. “Everyone is seeing the TV crew outside and are walking in once they know the story, people have had to wait for at least 10-15 minutes for a table,” said an employee of the hotel while he ran across tables to tend to the crowd.

Not only were people hoping to get a bill with the message they had heard about, they were hoping to find out if they had any more witty comments. “I have been eating lunch at the restaurant on the side of the road but today after I heard about this, I decided to try out this place. I found that the food is quite good too. So, they have earned a patron,” said Deepak Patil, whose relative has been admitted at KEM hospital since the past one week.

Meanwhile, a  case has been registered against the hotel owner. “We have registered a non-cognizable offence under Section 501(Printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of the IPC  against Srinivas Shetty, owner of the Aditi Hotel at Parel,” said ACP Ramesh Poman.
