The Bandra metropolitan court on Saturday sent actor Inder Kumar to police custody till April 30 on the charge of raping and physical assaulting a 23-year-old model.

The actor was arrested on Friday by the Versova police. "During interrogation, Kumar claimed that he had consensual sex with the woman. He is innocent and did not force her to stay at his place. So now we are verifying the allegation made by the victim and awaiting her medical reports to find out if she was sexually assaulted by Kumar on Thursday night," said a police officer from Versova police station.

Kumar was initially detained by Versova police after the victim approached the police on Friday morning and claimed that she had been assaulted and hit with a beer bottle by Kumar.

"The victim had burn injuries on her body indicating that the actor burnt her with cigarettes," the officer added.

According to the police, Kumar's wife first approached them on Thursday evening alleging that Kumar was having an extra-marital affair and she wanted to divorce him. Following this complaint, the police called Kumar and the victim to the police station. After an hour the matter was sorted out and they left for their respective homes, the police said.

The victim, however, claimed that Kumar telephoned her and called her to his residence on the pretext of discussing some important issue. "When she (victim) reached Kumar's house, he was reportedly drinking alcohol and an argument ensued between the two. In a fit of rage, he allegedly hit her with a beer bottle and sexually assaulted her," the officer said.

On Friday, Kumar was arrested under sections 376 (Punishment for Rape), 324 (causing grievous hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Kumar lives in a rented flat in Seven Bungalows, Andheri (West) with his wife but since they used to fight often, his wife started living with her mother, who resides in the same building, the police said.

The actor has worked in several Bollywood movies, including 'Wanted', 'Maa Tujhhe Salaam', 'Baaghi', 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi' and 'Masoom'.
