Actor Boman Irani has reportedly received threat from gangster Ravi Pujari. Mumbai police have confirmed that police protection has been provided to Irani. Boman Irani' had received a threat call few days ago, his upcoming movie Happy New Year is slated for Diwali release.

According to the police sources, on the night of August 23, three people came on a motorcycle and fired outside Juhu residence of film producer Ali Morani. Five bullets were fired that went on to hit a tree trunk, a glass pane of the building, and the bonnet of a BMW car parked inside the building.

Two days after firing at Morani's residence, the police had claimed that Pujari had called actor Shah Rukh Khan's production house Red Chillies and passed a message to the actor. Pujari reportedly told a staffer at the Red Chillies office to tell Shah Rukh to stay away from Ali Morani and his events as he (Morani) is linked to other underworld dons, the police said. Following the incident, the police had given security to Morani.

Meanwhile, Pujari has also given threatening calls to three other people, including Irani. The other two who received threat calls are not associated with Bollywood, sources said. "Police protection has been provided to all three persons," said a police officer.

Following this threat, the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the city crime branch has been asked to look into the case. "The number used to call Irani is an overseas number," a source said.

The police are also contemplating to provide security to all those, including actors, producers, directors and businessmen who have received threat calls from Pujari in past two years.

"Boman Irani has received threat from Pujari gang and security has been provided to Irani," said Rakesh Maria, Mumbai police commissioner.

Pujari who is known to make threat calls to builders, hoteliers and film personalities had also made a threat call at the Wadia Group office following the Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia argument case. The said case too is being investigated by the AEC.
