An RTI activist and journalist, who has been exposing alleged irregularities by several developers via his blog, has now alleged that someone posing as a police officer called and threatened him on Sunday afternoon. Krishnaraj Rao wrote to Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar on the same, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Saxena has forward the complaint to Zone 12 DCP.

In his email to the police chief, Rao has alleged that he received a threat call on behalf of Bhagtani builders and also a local MLA. He has alleged that the person who called him identified himself as Karan Singh and even asked Rao to check the number on the Truecaller app for the same.

According to Rao, the caller first claimed to be someone cheated by Bhagtani and another person. He said that both of them had given Bhagtani Rs 20 lakh and wanted the money back. After this, Rao suggested that the caller register an FIR, but the latter was not interested in legal remedies. In the middle of the call, the caller claimed that Bhagtani had told him on the phone the same day that he had made arrangements to lift Rao from his residence and thoroughly beaten up. The caller then changed the tack and claimed that he was a crime branch officer and began threatening Rao.

Rao then wrote the commissioner seeking his action. Vinay Rathod, DCP Zone 12, said, "I am yet to get the email, and when I do, I will ask the concerned police station to look into the matter."

Meanwhile, Diipesh Bhagtani, of JVPD Properties Ltd said, "We are a professional real estate company, and I am absolutely not aware of any threat. Nor are we interested in giving any threats to anybody. Though I can confirm that Mr Krishnaraj Rao is a blackmailer and we are going to file a complaint with Anti Corruption Bureau in consultation with the lawyer. We do not believe in these kinds of acts and have faith in the judiciary. These things are being done to extort money and spoil our name since we decided not to pay these blackmailers. He has written defamatory blogs against us mentioning stories which are not true and we shall be filing a separate complaint against him with Cyber Cell department."
