Accused in 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case gets bail

A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court has recently granted bail to Akhil Momin, an accused, in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case. Momin has spend spend eight years in jail.

According to the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS), the accused was arrested on the alleged grounds of being involved in conspiracy and transferring of arms. Momin was granted bail on the ground of parity but the court has directed him to pay Rs1 lakh as surety.

On May 8, 2006, a ATS team had chased a Tata Sumo and an Indica car on Chandwad-Manmad highway near Aurangabad and arrested three terror suspects. They seized 30kg RDX, 10 AK-47 assault rifles and 3,200 bullets from their possession.

Later, the police seized 13kg RDX, six AK-47s, 50 hand grenades and two swords from other suspects.
