The Mumbai Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Saturday, caught red handed an office staffers of Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

ACB official said a student seeking admission into first year BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) course had been asked to pay the bribe for a seat in the management quota.

According to ACB officials, the complainant approached them stating that deputy office superintendent OS Qamar (30) and office superintendent Tusi Rizvi (45) had demanded Rs 50,000 for admission in the management quota. They also allegedly told the student that no receipt would be issued for the money paid. ACB officials verified the complaint and laid a trap.

On Saturday, the complainant was sent to Qamar with Rs 50,000. As soon as Qamar accepted the money, ACB officials nabbed him. The office superintendent, Rizvi, was absent on Saturday and hence was not present when the money changed hands. ACB officials recovered a book which had names and phone numbers of several students mentioned in it.

An ACB officer on condition of anonymity said: "We will question those whose names and number are in the book to find out if they too had paid money to Qamar and Rizvi for getting admission in the college."

"We are still verifying if the college is aided or unaided and hence the accused have not been arrested formally. Further action will be taken after that is verified. We have learned that after they receive the money, the applicant would be given some coupons. We have seized such coupons from the office," said Vishwas Nangre Patil, additional commissioner, ACB.

Meanwhile, an authority in Rizvi College said on condition of anonymity: "The two are not professors, but clerks. One is a 30-year-old well qualified person, the other is a banker who joined the college after retirement. The second person was not in the college when the incident took place. The one who was present was scrutinizing the forms as per university norms. The police are investigating and college authorities are cooperating with them."
