The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday interrogated six people at its Worli office in connection with the alleged Maharashtra Sadan scam. According to ACB officials, four former engineers with the state housing department, a chief engineer and a desk officer were questioned.

An ACB officer said, "Their statements were recorded by the special investigation team. We will be submitting a final report on the allegations before the high court very soon."

Over the last two weeks, the officers had quizzed senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal's son Pankaj and nephew Sameer a few times. They were called once again on Thursday, however, they failed to turn up. The ACB had filed an interim report in the HC last week in connection with the case.

According to the allegations, Bhujbal, while serving as the PWD minister, misused his official position in awarding the contract for Maharashtra Sadan to his friend and relatives not capable of executing such projects. The cost of the project had also allegedly escalated several times over original estimates.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had approached the ACB, seeking an inquiry against Bhujbal, alleging that his friends and family-owned companies were involved in transactions and malpractices and had pocketed crores of rupees in the process. Last December, the state government gave its nod to ACB to conduct an open inquiry into the allegations, following which a special investigation team was formed.
