Following a special court order, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR against several people including a former additional district collector and former top officials of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) for alleged irregularities in allotment of space in Bandra East.

People against whom FIR has been registered include former additional district collector (encroachment) of Mumbai suburbs Rakesh Kumar Vadhwan, president and 10 directors of HDIL private limited; office bearer of Motilal Nehru Nagar Cooperative Society; Ujjwal Uke (IAS), Deboshish Chakravarti (IAS) and former CEOs of SRA.

Chakrabarty is currently principal secretary, Housing, and Uke is currently principal secretary, Woman and Child Development.

As per the complaint filed in session court by the owner of a commercial plot, HDIL was in charge of a slum redevelopment project in Motilal Nehru Nagar in Bandra East, and the complainant, who had a commercial plot, was declared ineligible even though he rightfully owned it. At the same time, several people who were ineligible were provided space. It was in 2005-'06 that the area was redeveloped.

The complainant has alleged that the company connived with government officials to forge documents and allot space to ineligible people.

"They allegedly cheated the government using excess space for development. The complainant was not allotted space though he had a shop in the area before redevelopment had begun. He therefore approached the special court and ACB was ordered to register an FIR," said Vishwas Nangre Patil, additional commissioner of police, ACB.

He said the department would take statements of all the accused and also check the relevant documents.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code including 420 (cheating), 166 (public servant disobeying law, with intent to cause injury), 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
