The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday registered a case against NCP leader and former Public Works Department (PWD) minister Chhagan Bhujbal, for possession of disproportionate assets, along with four other members of the Bhujbal family. The ACB also filed cases against seven others for helping Bhujbal gather the wealth illegally.

The agency has charged former state deputy chief minister Bhujbal, his son Pankaj Bhujbal, his nephew Sameer Bhujbal, Meena Bhujbal, Vishakha Bhujbal, Sunil Naik, Suresh Jajodia, Pravinkumar Jain, Sanjeev Jain, Chandrashekhar Sarda, Jagdishprasad Purohit and Kapil Puri in this regard.

ACB, along with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been making inquiries regarding the assets owned by the senior NCP leader and his family members, which they had gathered during the previous Congress-NCP regime in the state. During the inquiry, Bhujbal provided the agency with necessary details about his assets, after which in June 2015, the ACB searched 17 of Bhujbals' properties.

According to the ACB, during his tenure from April 1,1999 to January 16, 2014, Bhujbal and his wife Meena gathered nearly Rs203 crore and 24 lakh, which is 32% more than his known sources of income. While doing so, the couple received help from Pankaj and Sameer Bhujbal, Sunil Naik and Jagdish Prasad Purohit, who helped Bhujbal by getting him shares through illegal means from their bogus companies.

Similarly, from November 9, 2009 to March 1, 2015, Pankaj Bhujbal gathered disproportionate assets of over a crore, which is 45.27% more than his known income.
