The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday arrested an absconder who was booked in 2014 in an Arms Act case. The accused has been identified as Akbar Idris Khan, a history-sheeter.

According to the ATS, they arrested Shivanand Pande in January 2014 in illegal possession of firearms and magazines from Byculla's Gloria Church.

However, since November 2016, Khan failed to appear before the court during hearings and, hence, the court had declared him as an absconder.

"When he was untraceable we came to know that Khan had left the country and had gone to the Middle East by changing his identity, from Hyderabad airport. On Friday, we received specific information that Khan had arrived in the city and was at his house. We managed to lay a trap and arrested him," said an ATS officer.

More than 11 cases have been registered against Khan, the ATS said.
