Abetment to suicide case against Virar police inspector

Arnala Police on Tuesday registered a case of abetment to suicide against a serving police inspector from Virar and three others a day after a youth allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison.

According to the police, on Monday, one Amit Jha allegedly committed suicide in the jurisdiction of Virar Police Station area. Amit is the brother of Vikas Jha, who tried to set himself ablaze in front of the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) at Vasai in November last year.

Vikas Jha had not only set himself ablaze, but had also tried to set DySP Vasai on fire. A case was registered against Vikas Jha at Manikpur Police Station for attempting suicide and trying to set SDPO on fire," said Superintendent of Police, Palghar, Manjunath Singe. He added, there were eight offences registered against Vikas Jha and an externment proposal was pending with district magistrate against Vikas.

"One molestation case was registered against Vikas on November 9. Vikas also had a case of assaulting a government servant registered against him. Following Vikas's death, his family had alleged that Vikas was frustrated because of the cases registered against him and also because of a person called Munaf Baluch," said a police officer.

On January 20, Amit Jha consumed rat poison and was admitted to hospital. He succumbed on Monday," said the officer. "Based on a written complaint by Amit's father, a case has been registered at Arnala Police Station on charges of abetment to suicide and common intention against Munaf Baluch, PI Yunus Shaikh, Amar Jha, Mithelesh Jha.
