For the next three years, a police officer will have to forego a part of his salary for failing to inform his seniors about “various facilities” that Abdul Karim Telgi, an accused in the bogus stamp paper scam case, had been enjoying while being in police custody.

The state top cop, as a punishment, has decided that the police department will pay sub-inspector Pramod Bhosale only the basic salary for the next three years. Bhosale is now posted with the traffic division at Trombay. dna has the copy of the order issued by the police department.

The order states that despite knowing that Telgi was getting “various facilities” while being in police custody, Bhosale did not bring this to the notice of his seniors, thereby maligned the image of police department. Bhosale had then been posted with unit 5 (Kurla) of the Mumbai police crime branch when a case was registered against Telgi who was kept in the custody of the crime branch from October 28, 2002 to January 20, 2003.

Police sources said that Telgi was allowed to spend time in the lavish environs of his Cuffe Parade apartment while he was supposed to be in police custody.

The order reads: “Bhosale was aware of various facilities being given to Telgi during the police custody but he did not inform about the deputy commissioner of police or his superior officers about the same. This misconduct has maligned the image of the disciplined police force.”

The order states that subsequently a departmental inquiry was ordered against Bhosale all allegations against him were undisputedly proven. Police sources said that the final order was received by Bhosale recently.
