AAP 'informally' asks Yogendra Yadav supporter Maruti Bhapkar to step down

"We have communicated to him that he should be stepping down from his post. The message was conveyed to him informally after a consensus in the state executive committee. We have also asked our national executive to know what should be done so that a formal communication can be sent to him," said a leader of the state executive committee.

Taking a stern view of its leader Maruti Bhapkar sharing platform with rebels Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, the state executive committee of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has "informally" asked him to step down from his post. At present, Bhapkar is holding the post of zonal convenor of Pune and Konkan region in the "Mission Vistaar" of AAP launched some time ago.

Besides Bhapkar, leaders like Sanjeev Sane, Lalit Babar and Shakil Ahmed from Mumbai have been seen sharing platform with Yadav and Bhushan.

"We have communicated to him that he should be stepping down from his post. The message was conveyed to him informally after a consensus in the state executive committee. We have also asked our national executive to know what should be done so that a formal communication can be sent to him," said a leader of the state executive committee.

The party said such a step had to be taken because Bhapkar, unlike a few others who are sharing dais with the rebel duo, is an office-bearer. "Volunteers are not getting the right signal. Also, on his insistence during the March 31 meeting of the state executive in Pune, we had sent a letter to the national team, expressing disappointment over the way in which Yadav and Bhushan were removed. We thought that it will please him and he will stay in the party. Subhash Ware too tried his best to keep the flock together but he seems to be rebelling openly," said another member. The party had earlier denied sending any such letter.

When contacted, Bhapkar said, "I have not received any letter or mail or SMS, formally or informally. No one has communicated anything to me orally too. Once it comes to me, I will give my reaction."
