The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday started its poll campaign in the state with a populist poll plank. The party stated that it's working on a plan that will give bigger homes (450 sq ft carpet) to those living in the slums.

The statement was made at a rally held at Bhardawadi's Sant Ramdas Park opposite Navrang Cinema in Andheri (West). The rally was attended by senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav and the party's poll candidates Mayank Gandhi, Medha Patkar, Meera Sanyal, Anjali Damania, Vijay Pandhare and Pune-based Maruti Bhapkar.

Gandhi said: "Not a single person from the slums will be touched till the time they are given bigger and better homes. We are working on a plan where people will be given 450 sq ft (carpet area) homes. These will have two rooms, living room and toilets."

Speaking on the slum issue which has not found a solution for decades, Medha Patkar said, "We too gave a policy to house one crore people in the city to the state, but nothing happened."
The poor in the city, she said, were missing out on amenities because the rich were enjoying by paying for them. "Ambani is enjoying electricity by paying bills of lakhs of rupees but the poor have no supply," said Patkar.

Yadav repeated his allegations against Modi and drew the Adani group into this. "Modi has given properties to Adani at throw-away prices. There were instances when even the Air Force was not given land at the rates in which he gave properties to Adani," alleged Yadav.

"There is a new energy in this country. It is of hope among common man generated after the Delhi poll results," added Yadav.

Maruti Bhapkar, AAP member from Pune, took a dig at the relation of prominent political parties in the state. Terming it 'Noorya Kushti' (fixed match) — a deal said to have taken place between the state government and the MNS on the toll issue — he slammed MNS and Shiv Sena in particular. "MNS and Shiv Sena started collecting money by organising music programmes. No one else but only they got employment through this," said Bhapkar.
