The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) looks forward to contesting all Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

“We look forward to contesting all Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. As of now, we are definitely fighting all seats in Delhi during the assembly elections,” AAP member Manish Sisodia said during a press conference on Sunday, when the party was holding its first Maharashtra convention in the city at Vanita Samaj Hall in Dadar.

AAP party informed the press about its membership drive and zilla committees. “We have formed 27 committees and will form eight more. In six months, our membership should jump form 20,000 to more than five lakhs,” India Against Corruption activist Anjali Damania said.

Among the national executive leaders present were Prashant Bhushan and Mayank Gandhi. They highlighted the main issues the party would take up during the elections and also commented on questions pertaining to the Indian Premier League and the Maoist attack in Chattisgarh.

“There is no doubt that Maoists are a problem, but one has to see why the problem came into existence. They are a direct result of the government’s corrupt policies. If you snatch land from the poor and give it to someone else for commercial exploitation, they will protest. And if you don’t allow non-violent protests or don’t listen to them, it will lead to violence,” Bhushan said. “Policies are increasingly being formed without any public participation. Families have started controlling constituencies and sometimes, even the cooperative banks are run by them. This dynastic rule should end. Our main plank will be corruption, water-related issues in the state and removing this dynastic rule.”

The party also slammed the IPL, calling it “vulgar entertainment” that has made “sex symbols” out of women. “There is no cricket in it. It needs to be discouraged,” Bhushan said.

Present from the city unit of the party were actor Ranveer Shorey, advocate Mihir Desai and dabbawala association member Kishan Gawande.
