More than a week after the accident at Metro construction site of Andheri East- Dahisar East Metro-7 corridor, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has not yet been able to prepare any report on the accident wherein bunch of iron rods had come down tilting towards the ground at Western Express Highway (WEH) near Aarey Colony.

According to MMRDA, it had issued a show-cause notice to both the contractor and general consultant for the Metro project asking for a reply to a report on the accident. However, the general consultant has not submitted the report yet.

A senior MMRDA official, not wishing to be named, said, "We have not got the report by our general consultant yet and we are told the general consultant has received the reply of J Kumar Infrastructure, contractor for the project. We expect the general consultant to prepare and submit the report to MMRDA within next two days."

MMRDA had last week claimed, that the accident took place due to a crane touching the iron rods while work was in progress on a pier. No police complaint or case has been registered against the contractor by MMRDA in the accident that occurred a week ago.

Meanwhile, this is the second time such an incident has taken place on the construction site of Metro-7. In June 2017, a pier reinforcement – colloquially, a bunch of iron rods came down crashing at WEH in Jogeshwari. At the time, MMRDA had held heavy rains and wind as the culprit.

Metro-7 is 16.475 km long elevated corridor with 13 Metro stations from Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E). It will be made operational in 2019 and the corridor is expected to see the commuter traffic of 4.79 lakh people daily.
