More than a third of the seats in engineering courses in the state are likely to remain vacant this year, a trend that's being observed since many years now.

The figures obtained from Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), which is in charge of the admission process in all professional courses, reveal that only 1.06 lakh students had sought admission till 3pm on July 3. There are 1.55 lakh seats available. The deadline for online form submission was 5 pm on Thursday.
An official said: "We don't expect any major sale of forms in the last hours."

The actual number of students who take admission could be even less as many would leave on getting admission in centrally-funded institutions like NITs and IIITs, where the admission process is yet to begin.
DTE will now prepare the rank list (of the 1.06 lakh candidates) based on percentile of class 12 marks (physics, chemistry and maths) and JEE (main) score in equal share.

Provisional ranks will be announced on July 5. Those who have some objection to the rankings can register their grievances from July 6 to July 8 (5 pm). The final merit list will be released on July 9.
There will be three CAP (centralised admission process) rounds (seat allocation) this year. Students who don't get their first choice of engg branch/institute can try their luck in the next round.
