Only one test in a year will now be conducted in January, states the council's notification
Days after dna's report regarding the delay and uncertainty around the September session of Common Management Admission Test, the All India Council of Technical Education has issued a notification stating that the September CMAT stands cancelled.
The notification issued on Friday also states that henceforth only one CMAT would be conducted in a year, in January.
The last-minute decision would affect nearly 1 lakh MBA aspirants across India who were looking forward to appear in the exam which gives tickets to leading B-schools like JBIMS.
This call is said to be the first major decision of the newlyappointed chairman of the council, Anil Sahastrabuddhe, who took charge last month. Efforts to get in touch with the new AICTE chairman turned futile.
Candidates charged the council for callousness and insensitivity for taking such a major decision in haste and at the eleventh hour and its frequent policy changes. "We have lost one opportunity to appear in the exam. Ideally, they should have informed us in July," said an aspirant.
Another candidate rued: "Why such frequent changes in the policy? Can't we have a long-term policy which will help us to plan and prepare for our career better?"
The dna report 'AICTE in sleep mode, students worried' dated August 3 had stated the plight of anxious candidates due to lack of communication from the council about the September exam even as August had come. The AICTE is the competent authority for the exam.
The Council, MHRD and CMAT had not issued any notification of the September (2016 first test) exam till now — which is usually issued by the first week of July. This has left the candidates fuming as the CMAT and AICTE websites have not put out any notice informing the anxious candidates about the reasons for the delay.
