A misfire by a Police Constable injures driver

A police driver was injured after a police constable's pistol misfired twice on Wednesday morning. The driver is now reportedly out of danger.

The incident took place around 9.30am at sector 28 in Nerul in the parking lot of Palm Residency. Deputy commissioner of police (zone 1), Thane Ashok Dudhe, resides in the complex. He was preparing to leave for office when the incident took place.

"Dudhe's driver of the official car, Sachin Pawar, 32, was polishing his boots at the time, while his guard, police constable Subhash Avtar, 28, was cleaning his pistol," Sangeeta Alphonso, senior police inspector of Nerul police station.

"It was during the cleaning that the pistol suddenly misfired twice. One of the bullets hit the right leg of Pawar, below the knee. The other bullet hit a wall," she added.

Pawar has been admitted to a private hospital in Vashi. The police have booked Avtar for negligence, however, he has not been arrested so far.
