As per statistics 400 million live on less than Rs70 a day in India. In fact, there are 60 million more people living in poverty now than there were 20 years ago.
To bring a change in this scenario, Magic Bus an NGO is working to empower children, to break the poverty cycle. The goal is achieved by providing inputs in the areas of education, health and gender equity.
They use local youths as mentors and role models to implement a sports-based curriculum to engage children and empower them. Their other role is to work with the child’s support structure the community at large and local institutions to ensure the change is sustainable. A child is enrolled when he is seven years old.
On October 25, Magic Bus will host its 3rd Mumbai Benefit at The Palladium Hotel. This annual event is a celebration dinner, which will be attended by superstars such as Abhishek Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar. Some of Mumbai’s significant families will be celebrating Magic Bus achievement of reaching 300,000 children in its programme.
