Dog parents (owners) get ready! Farzana Contractor's dog carnival hit the town on Saturday and it's on today as well.

It's a fun time as doggies of all shapes and sizes, and of different breeds come together to interact with each other and to participate in a contest where they'll be judged for their personality and not just beauty.

The woman who's conceptualised the event, Farzana, calls it "an affair of the heart with dogs" that has been happening for seven years now. Says Farzana: "This year we've got a lot of games and entertainment for dogs and their parents for a larger audience."

Musical chairs and games with ice-creams brought smiles on the faces of owners (not to mention participating doggies) while goodie bags for the dogs give them chews, biscuits and other fun stuff to munch on.

The Doggy Personality Pageant will be judged by actress Sonnalli Seygall, TV artist Kunwar Amarjeet Singh and Shalini Piramal while interesting attractions such as the D&M Pet Studio and the artist's corner to capture that pretty face the professional way, will be featured.

Behind all those fun and games is a more serious issue. "We want to make Mumbai more dog-friendly," says Farzana. "A lot of kids today are total tech geeks. When they visit the carnival and interact with dogs they learn such values as kindness and responsibility and discipline." The fete, which is being held at the Radio Club, is open to everyone not just those who are members of the Radio Club. All dog-lovers are invited to attend, including those who don't own dogs but would like to interact with the canines at the fair.

NGOs and pet care providers will display their creative wares from furniture for a doggy home to accessories, toys and a variety of pet food. There will be massages available for the dogs and grooming clinics for the furry ones. Dog parents can seek advice on wellness from a dog healer, on health, nutrition, behaviour and similar pet-related issues. And they can even take home a pup from the Adoption Pound set up at the fair.

There will be food stalls introduced this year for pet parents "so that they don't have to go home and cook dinner" according to Farzana. And for the more esoteric parents a glass of wine and some music will soothe palates and souls.

Dog A'Fair, the dog carnival will be held on Sunday at the Radio Club, Colaba, from 3 pm to 9 pm.
