9 Thane artists' work on display at platography expo

An exhibition of plat-o-graphs of 111 painters will be held at Jehangir Art Gallery today. What is distinct about this exhibition is that works of over nine prominent artists from Thane will be displayed.

Like painting, plat-o-graphs have come to acquire an important place in the art world as they make expensive art pieces available to people in affordable rates. Thus, it is possible for the common man with artistic palette to have a Sudhir Patwardhan or Akbar Padamsee platograph in his home.

For art connoisseurs of Thane and Mumbai, here is a grand opportunity to claim a platography print of Akbar Padamsee, KG Subramaniyan, Krishen Khanna, Satish Gujaral, Jogen Chowdhary, Jyoti Bhatt, Sunil Das, among others.

Thane artist Kashinath Salve has organised an exhibition called 'Platography portfolio program'. He has worked on this project for three years and has been helped by printmakers Nirmalendu Das, Ajit Seal, Raman Kastha from Kolkata to get the plat-o-graphs.

The exhibition is on till January 18. Eminent Thane artists Arvind Hate, Dilip Ranade, Kashinath Salve, Madhav Imartey, Padmakar Kulkarni, Rahul Vajale, Rajesh Pullarwar, Shashikant Gorkhe and Sudhir Patwardhan will also be featured.

Hate says, "A platograph is as good as a painting and because of its convenience has become popular. Earlier, it was known as lithography and is quite an ancient technique. In lithography, one used a stone to get the prints while here we use a plate."
