82-year-old woman assaulted, robbed of gold ornaments in her Dadar home

An unidentified accused robbed and assaulted an 82-year-old woman in her house in Dadar (west) early on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 2am when the victim, Shantidevi Gupta, was alone in the house. Gupta is a resident of Nagusayachiwadi chawl, Dadar (w). These chawls, which have been there for several decades, have interconnected rooms and flats.

Gutpa was sleeping in the bedroom when the accused entered and tried to snatch the gold bangles she was wearing. when the victim woke up and raised an alarm, the accused put two fingers into her mouth to stop her from screaming. The victim, who has dentures, tried biting him but was unsuccessful. The accused, who probably realised that the victim was putting up a fight that would lead to the failure of his plan, snatched her earrings and a few bangles before fleeing from the spot.

Gupta ran to her son, who was sleeping in the next room, and narrated the incident to him. “The victim received minor injuries on her wrists during the scuffle. Due to the incident, she was in a state of shock,” said Ramesh Dhanwat, assistant commissioner of police (Dadar division).

Police further said that since it was dark, the victim could only see the silhouette of the accused and his face.

A case of trespass, theft and assault under IPC has been registered against the accused.
