Around 78 Third Year B Com students in Ulhasnagar's Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani (CHM) College have been declared failed in Marketing and Research paper. They had appeared for the 5th semester exams last October, and their mark lists were delayed.

"The mark lists of all other students who had appeared for this exam were uploaded, but ours were marked 'unsuccessful'. We didn't understand what had happened and our college asked for a hard copy. When the mark lists came in, we were all marked absent in internals, and hence failed," says Samir Patnakar, a CHM College student.

"We submitted our projects and gave our Viva on the scheduled day. The college has assured it would rectify the error, but there has been no progress. The revised mark list also had similar issues. Now, after writing our last semester papers, we are not sure if the university will be able to provide our mark lists on time, and that will create problems for us in getting admission for post graduation," adds Patnakar.

According to college authorities, there was an error in the website while submitting marks online. "We have to fill the marks of internal exams online, but there were problems while doing it. We immediately sent hand written mark lists to the university. They sent a revised list, but it had errors, and later, we submitted mark lists online as well. We have been keeping in touch with the Controller of Examinations," says Charanjit Kaur Singh, principal, CHM College.

Students are upset. "We have been told that within a week we will get our mark lists. But we aren't convinced. Our future is at stake. Technical errors must be rectified immediately and we should not be forced to pay for their mistakes," says a student.

Marketing and Research is an optional subject and hence only a few students have been affected.

Vinod Malale, PRO, Mumbai University, says: "The Controller of Examinations is looking into the matter. Whatever the situation, we will act fast and will not let students suffer."
