725 booked for drunk driving on Holi day in Mumbai

A drive was carried out against revelers involved in traffic violations across the city on Thursday from 12 am to 8 pm

Mumbai Traffic Police booked 725 persons for drunk driving in a drive carried out across the city in the wee hours of Thursday. Police also took action against those involved in rash driving, over-speeding and riding without a helmet.

According to police, of the 725 people booked by Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP). A drive was carried out against revelers involved in traffic violations across the city on Thursday from 12 am to 8 pm.

"166 persons were booked for rash driving, 430 were booked for over-speeding, 789 for triple-seat riding on two-wheelers, 4,738 for riding without a helmet and 3,827 were booked for other miscellaneous traffic violations," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Amitesh Kumar.

A five-year-old from Tadwadi was rushed to Sir JJ Hospital's emergency unit on Thursday afternoon after he choked on a piece of eggshell while celebrating Holi with his friends. He was sent home after treatment.

In another incident, Nitesh Shah (27) injured his right hand's fingers. Shah, said, "While I was running after my friends to throw colours at them, my finger got twisted. An X-ray has been conducted and further medical treatment is going on."

Just like Shah, a few more citizens from across the city visited various hospitals to treat minor injuries suffered while playing Holi. Most hospitals received cases of minor injuries.

While the bike ambulance attended to 34 calls related to injuries, the 108 emergency ambulance attended to 120 calls on Wednesday and Thursday.

This year in KEM Hospital, Parel, 23 minor injury cases were attended to in the emergency unit. "Out of 23 cases, 18 injuries were caused as people tripped and fell, four patients had giddiness due to consumption of bhang and one had skin irritation. All were treated on OPD-basis. There were no major injury cases," said Dr Hemant Deshmukh, Dean, KEM Hospital.

At BYL Nair Hospital, 13 minor injury cases were attended to in the emergency unit. "Out of the 13 cases, most of the cases were of itchiness in the eyes. The cases were treated on OPD basis," said Dr RN Bharmal, Dean, Nair Hospital
