Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state government has accepted in principle the Kunte committee report on unauthorised constructions in municipal corporation limits in the state.

He said the committee has primarily suggested regularising 70-75 per cent unauthorised constructions.

The government had appointed the committee to suggest recommendations on unauthorised constructions in urban areas falling under municipal corporation limits in big cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik etc. The government has already accepted the Swadheen Kshatriya committee report on unauthorised construction in rural areas.

The government accepted the report after seeking the opinion of two departments --law and judiciary and revenue. Since the Supreme Court had issued guidelines on the issue, the government had to seek the opinion of the law and judiciary department, Fadnavis said.

MLA Laxman Jagtap had raised the issue in the assembly. He said the cabinet will soon clear the report .

After former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, former speaker and NCP MLA Dilip Walse-Patil, BJP MLA Medha Kulkarni and Mahesh Lande raised supplementary questions, Fadnavis made it clear that the government would approach the high court and seek some time from the court, so that all constructions could be surveyed before appropriate action is taken as per the report.

The government would request the court to consider the decision and give some time for the survey. The committee has also suggested ways and means to prevent such unauthorised constructions in future. He informed that the government would make stringent provisions for preventing such constructions in future.

Though the calling attention motion was on Pimpri-Chinchwad, the recommendations will be implemented across the state. Fadnavis said there are 65,320 unauthorised constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation limits alone.
