A seven-year-old boy died on Tuesday morning after he fell unconscious at the basketball court of his school in Matunga . The incident happened when the boy was participating in a basketball training session.

According to the Matunga police, the incident occurred at 11:30 am at Don Bosco High School. The deceased, identified as Kenneth Rosario, a Std II student, collapsed on the basketball court while attempting to basket the ball.

"Some students were taken to the basketball court for training and were lined up to take turns to basket the ball. When Rosario's turn came, he collapsed", said Raghvendra Thakur, senior police inspector from Matunga police station.

The school authorities rushed Rosario to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. We have come to know from preliminary investigation that the boy suffered from epilepsy when he was an infant."

The police have ruled out foul play and registered a case of accidental death.

School principal Fr Bosco D'mello said: "It was a game period in the morning when the children were taking turns to put the ball in the basket. When this child's turn came, he came forward, put the ball in the basket, and when he came to stand in queue for the next turn, he collapsed. The sports instructor immediately took him to the nearest hospital, Shah nursing home, where he was declared dead. We don't know the cause of death, but the parents were informed about the incident immediately and came to the hospital directly."
