A group of six Nigerians, who were fighting among themselves after getting drunk on Sunday night, have been arrested by the police.

The police also recovered liquor worth Rs26,000 from their rented house in Juhu gaon at sector 11, Vashi. All of them were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and were produced before the judicial court on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, the arrested Nigerians have been staying in Navi Mumbai since the last four to five years. The reason behind their fight, however, is still not clear. "A few locals informed that the Nigerians were fighting in their area around 11.30pm. Our officials arrested all of them for rioting and also seized the liquor found in their house. They were reportedly running a hotel in that flat for their fellow Nigerians," said Ram Pathare, senior police inspector from Vashi police station.

The police are still unsure about the profession of the arrested people. "We are now investigating the case to find out if they have required documents to stay in India. We have also informed the African Embassy about the incident," another police officer said.
