6 hurt as car rams into SUV at Kharegaon naka

Six people were injured when a speeding car rammed into their SUV at the Kharegaon toll naka in Kalwa on Friday evening. They are being treated for various injuries at a private hospital, where their condition was described as stable.

According to the police, the members of two families were returning from Thane in a Scorpio, and had stopped near the toll naka to attend to an eight-month-old with them.

While the mother was busy with the baby boy, the others stepped out of the vehicle to enjoy the cool evening breeze.

They were standing around the Scorpio when suddenly a speeding WagonR crashed into the vehicle. Some of them were knocked down.

All of them suffered various injuries and they were taken to Kalsekar hospital, Mumbra, by passersby. The details of the extent of the injuries was not known.

The names of the injured were given as Ubedullah Khan, 26, Haseen Khan, 23, the mother of baby Hasan Khan, Naseema Siddhique, 12, Ayaba Siddhique, 16, and their driver Valliullah Khan, 38.

The driver of the WagonR, Moiz Hyderali Sadarwala, 60, has been arrested and booked for rash and negligent driving under sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Aniket Pote, investigating officer of Kalwa police station, said that it appeared that the driver dozed off at the wheel briefly. Sadarwala also suffered injuries and was in a state of shock after the accident.
