A 52-year-old man was found murdered at his residence in Nerul, sector 20, on Saturday afternoon.

The residents of Shri Laxmi Niwas CHS informed the police after foul smell began emanating from Keshav Beidur's ground floor flat. The police broke open the door and found his decomposed body inside.
"There were severe injury marks on the deceased's head when we recovered his body. We suspect he was hit with some hard object on his head. It is, however, still not clear when he was murdered," said a police officer from Nerul police station.

The police have sent his body to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) hospital in Vashi for postmortem. The post-mortem reports are yet to come.

"The deceased was alone in his house for the last couple of days. We have learnt that some gold ornaments from the house are also missing. Prima facie, it appeared that someone tried to rob him of his valuables and finally hit him on his head when the latter tried the protect the ornaments," the officer said.

The police suspect the the domestic help of the deceased could also be involved in the crime. "We are interrogating many people, but have not found evidence against anyone. Our investigations are on and we hope to get hold of the culprit soon," another police officer said.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under sections 302 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified culprit.

In another incident, 30-year-old Amirul Gazi, a businessman from Nerul, was found murdered in sector 4 in the last week of February. While the police have arrested one accused in connection with the murder, three others are still on the run.
