Mumbai University's bubble about the newly introduced system of onscreen evaluation being more efficient seems to have burst after around 50 thousand students applied for revaluation of their examination papers. This number has increased by almost 15 thousand as compared to last year, sources of the university's examination department said.

"Close to 50 thousand students have applied for revaluation even as the application process is going on. The number has gone up considerably after students, whose results were 'held in reserve', came out. The number of applications is highest amongst students of Institute of Distance and Open Learning(IDOL), Engineering and Law," the official said.

The official said over 5 thousand students have sought photocopies of their answer sheets.

With such high number of queries, the students are also worried about a delay in getting the results. "I got 24 in one of the papers. My marks are outstanding in the rest of the papers . I had applied for a revaluation a week ago, and was told that it might take about 10 days. however, with so many students queuing up at the university, it seems the revaluation would take more time," said an M.Sc student of the university.

The university has reduced the revaluation fee to Rs 250 per paper and the rate for photocopying a paper was lessened to Rs 50 this year. On Sunday, over 27 thousand answer sheets, mostly belonging to the commerce students, were to be evaluated with 5 results to be declared.

The university is now mulling to scrap the onscreen evaluation system for the upcoming October exams it led to a series of glitches, sources said.
