Mumbai police chief Rakesh Maria has ordered to install 500 more complaint boxes across the city in schools, colleges and places of high footfall. This decision has been taken in a bid to involve more vigilant participation of citizens. The keys of these boxes will be with zonal DCPs, who will personally monitor the information received.
About the boxes, Maria said, "Earlier, they were installed near religious places and residential areas, but now, we have decided to put such boxes at places of high footfall like schools, colleges, markets, malls and railway stations."
He added that such boxes would help the cops curb crimes like eve-teasing, robbery, goon menace, narcotics trade and terrorism.
"The identity of citizens who provide information about crimes, will be kept under wraps and they won't be called to the police station," Maria added.
