A 49-year-old man in Nallasopara on Monday jumped from the terrace of his flat after his employer allegedly threatened to throw him out if he failed to pay his pending rent. The family of the deceased has accused the employer for pressurizing the man to take the extreme step.

The deceased Anil Pawar on Monday morning died instantly from a fall from the fourth floor of his apartment building. His employer at around 10.30 am had barged into his residence and had threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the rent of his apartment.

"My father had a month's rent unpaid. His employer barged in the morning and threatened to kill him if he did not pay up. Due to depression, he went to the terrace and jumped," said his daughter.

"We have registered the case of suicidal death and are investigating further. If we find that the man was driven to end his life, we would apply further sections," said a senior police official from Nalasopara police station.
