A grieving Vikhroli family finally received the mortal remains of Rajnikant Nagindas Dalal, from Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

Rajnikant passed away on April 29 due to heart failure. His family back home waited for over 47 days to claim his body to perform the last rites.

Rajnikant had been working in Saudi Arabia for the last 30 years. "Last, I had seen my father around was two years back, when he had come down to meet us. April 26 was the last I spoke to him over the phone and everything seemed fine. Suddenly, three days later, we received a call from his friend, informing us that he had passed away," recalled his 24-year-old daughter Khyati.

The family had sent relevant documents, along with a fee of Rs2.20 lakh, to receive the body. However, the authorities kept delaying the procedure, said the Dalals, adding that when the family called up the governor's office in Saudi Arabia four days back, the officials claimed to not know about the existence of such a case.

Khyati said, "When we telephoned them, they said they were unaware that the body was kept lying at the Buraidah Central Hospital. They assured us to send the body as soon as possible after completing all the formalities."

Further, the Embassy of India, Riyadh, got in touch with the family and informed them that the body was being sent in a cargo. "Nobody was present with us at the time of grieving. These 47 days were the most challenging...

Barring a few relatives, nobody offered us a shoulder to cry on," Khyati told iamin.

"We only thank iamin for rigorously following up the issue and publishing the story on the website. It is only because of iamin that we received the mortal remains of my father."

Rajnikant is survived by his wife Rekha (60), daughter Khyati and son Devang (20).
