Forty-six Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers, who had assembled on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Virar and attempted to halt vehicles around 11.30 am, were arrested while 60 other agitators were arrested for halting traffic for nearly half an hour in Bhayander.

A bunch of partyworkers, who were shouting slogans and were about to block the road, were detained by the police and taken to the police station. Near Khanivade toll plaza in Vasai, heavy police presence ensured that no untoward incident took place.

Senior inspector Chandrakant Jadhav of Virar police station said that no untoward incident had taken place. "We have detained 46 protesters for attempting to disrupt traffic but traffic towards Mumbai and Ahmedabad was normal," said Jadhav.

Around 60 agitating party workers, including women, were detained after they squatted on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, opposite Thakur mall, bringing vehicular traffic to a halt for about half an hour. The workers were detained and escorted to Navghar police station in a police van.
