The Shivaji Park police have recently arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping a three and a half year-old girl last week. The police are probing whether the suspect wanted to traffic the girl or push her into a begging racket.

The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Nasruddin Ali, a labourer and resident of Dadar.

According to the police, complainant Firoz Shaikh (35), is a labourer by profession and stays with his wife Yasmin (30), two daughters Zeenat and Nehmat and son Irfan in Dadar.

"On May 16, Shaikh had lodged a police complaint stating that when he returned home in the evening from work, his wife told him that at 11am she had left for market with Irfan and had left her two daughters with a neighbour. When she returned home after an hour, she found Nehmat missing. Zeenat told Yasmin that Abdul had taken Nehmat with him," said an officer from Shivaji Park police station.

He added that since Abdul was known to the family, the family did not suspect anything and waited for a few hours for them to return. "Since Abdul and Nehmat did not return for a long time, the family started searching for them. When the family could not trace them, they approached the police," the officer said.

"On receipt of specific information, we managed to rescue the girl from Kausa in Mumbra and arrested Abdul. The girl has been sent to Sion Hospital for medical examination. We are probing whether Abdul had kidnapped the girl for trafficking or to push her into a begging racket," said the officer.
