Mumbaikars who turned up to watch Aamir Khan-starrer PK at Kurla's Phoenix Marketcity mall on Saturday night had a harrowing experience with the movie not only starting 35 minutes late, but also testing their patience with a 45-minute interval. As a result, the 2.5 hour-long film was stretched to 4 hours.

Hundreds of frustrated moviegoers at the PVR multiplex in the shopping mall created a ruckus as they waiting in long queues outside the screen for over half an hour for the film to begin. Those who attended the 10 pm screening of the movie also had to sit through a 45 minutes-long interval. Moreover, when the 10 pm screening's viewers approached the booking counter to complain, viewers meant to attend the movie's 10.45 pm screening were also present there to complain of delay. The price of the ticket was between Rs 300 and Rs 350 per head.

Mary Lobo, one of the viewers of the 10 pm show, said, "It was one of the most torturous experiences for all of us at the theatre. When we entered the multiplex, of the five ticket counters, only two were open and the queue was extremely slow. On a Saturday night, when the shows were housefull, how could they afford to keep the counters shut? While we had to wait for more than 25 minutes to get our tickets which were booked online, the ordeal did not end there."

This was followed by a gruelling wait outside the screen as it was shut for cleaning for almost 30 minutes. Once inside, after a series of commercials, the movie started and then went for an interval at 12 pm, which went on for about 45 minutes. Another viewer, Rishab Jain, said, "There was a clash in the commercial break between the 10 pm and 10:40 pm shows. Both screens had breaks at the same time and the entire place seemed like a fish market. The break that started at 12 continued till 12:45 for some strange reason. By then, we became impatient and people started screaming and walked out of the theatre."

Over 100 moviegoers from both screens landed at the manager's cabin and confronted the staff and management. "Some asked for refunds as they did not want to continue waiting. That apart, we came with our kids who grew restless as the movie ended after 2 am. Is this the experience we deserve after paying Rs 350 per person and standing in long queues to enter?" asked Mridula Ramakrishnan, another movie goer. She added that the staff and management failed to give any explanation and shrugged it off saying that the delay was due to a dearth of staff and technical problems. "There was no apology from anybody at the PVR. This incident reeks of unprofessional attitude and unaccountability," added Jain.

Despite repeated calls and SMSes to the managing director and the joint managing director of PVR Cinemas, both remained unavailable for comment.
