The body of a 42-year-old man was found in a room at the MLA hostel, near Mantralaya, in south Mumbai, on Saturday. The police said they have no clue yet about how the man died, but had no reason to suspect any foul play.

The police identified the man as Dasrao Ganpat More, who had come to Mumbai from Parbhani some days ago along with a relative, who had a job interview. He stayed in room number 515 at the hostel.

“There are no external injuries on the man’s body. We are awaiting medical reports to ascertain the cause of death. We have learned that More was an alcoholic,” said a senior officer at Marine Drive police station.

The room is allotted to Jaiprakash Dandegaokar, MLA from the Nationalist Congress Party elected from Basmath in Hingoli district, adjacent to Parbhani.

The officer said police was also probing whether More had committed suicide by consuming something. “We have registered a case of accidental death as we do not suspect any foul play,” he said.

More prolonged his stay at the hostel for a few days after the interview. A couple of days ago, More’s family requested a relative to go to Mumbai and bring him back. On Saturday morning, when the relative reached the hostel, he found the body.

The police was informed and the body was taken to St George Hospital where he was declared dead.
