The Gamdevi police on Monday registered a case of rape against an unknown person after a 40-year-old housewife approached them.
The alleged incident occurred on November 19 in Mahalaxmi but the victim approached the police only on Monday as, she said, she was confused whether to register a complaint with the Antop Hill police or the Gamdevi police, an officer said.
According to the Gamdevi police, the victim, a resident of Antop Hill, was looking for a manservant and got in touch with the accused, who allegedly said he could provide one on a contract basis.
The police said the woman allegedly sells products from home and came in touch with the accused when he called her up saying he wanted to buy some of the products and would also help her find a servant.
The accused and the victim are said to have known each other for about three days when he allegedly asked her to come and meet him in Mahalaxmi so that he could understand her requirements.
The accused allegedly took the victim to a restaurant, under the pretext of discussion, and spiked her drink. A few minutes later, when the woman started feeling dazed, he allegedly took her to a nearby hotel and raped her.
Investigating officer Sunil Kamble said, “The woman approached us on Monday and, based on her complaint, we have registered a rape case against an unknown person. The victim has given us a description of the accused and, accordingly, a sketch has been prepared.”
The victim has also given the mobile number of the accused to the police, which they are tracking.
