40-year-old arrested for extorting builder

The anti-extortion cell of city crime branch has arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Shakeel Abdul Rehman Shaikh, for allegedly extorting a builder through Fahim Machmach, a close aide Dawood Ibrahim.

The anti-extortion cell of city crime branch has arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Shakeel Abdul Rehman Shaikh, for allegedly extorting a builder through Fahim Machmach, a close aide Dawood Ibrahim.

The complainant, who works for the builder, had received phone calls from Machmach from a Pakistani number. Machmach had forced the complainant to give Shaikh a flat in a redevelopment project in Juhu Gully. Machmach also dropped the name of Dawood Ibrahim in one of his telephonic conversations with the complainant, police said.

Shaikh, who is into fabrication business, is a resident of Andheri. According to sources, the complainant works in a construction company of a well-known builder. He also heads a project of the said builder in Juhu Gully.

In one of the phone calls made to the complainant, Machmach said "Duniya to baat te ho, usko bhi ek karod do, Dawood bhai ne bola hai." (You distribute to the world, give him also a crore, Dawood bhai has said).
