The MIDC police have registered a case against an Indian-origin French national who is a trustee of a school in Andheri (E) for allegedly sexually abusing a four-year-old student at the school. The case was registered after the child's mother noticed unusual behaviour of her daughter, and on showing her the school website, the child pointed to the photograph of the accused as the one who had touched her inappropriately.

A female class teacher who was aware of the crime, but did nothing to stop it, has also been booked for abetting the crime.

The school is one of the few institutions in the city following the Waldorf curriculum — an alternate way of teaching students that is gaining popularity in the West.

According to the MIDC police, the mother, a businesswoman, approached them and complained that around four months back, her daughter was allegedly sexually abused by a trustee of the school, Patrick Brillant, and her female class teacher abetted the crime.

When the mother noticed unusual behaviour of her daughter, she first contacted the school authorities, who bluntly asked her to register a complaint with the police.

"The complainant has revealed that after noticing unusual behaviour of her child, she opened the school's website, and the girl identified the trustee as as the man who had sexually abused her, and and also named her class teacher. Being a sensitive case, we registered the First Information Report on May 18", said a senior police officer from MIDC police station.

"The complainant said that her daughter informed her that she was touched inappropriately and this had affected her. The mother revealed that the trustee who also teaches in the same school touched her
daughter's private parts. A female teacher who was aware of this, did nothing and abetted the crime", said the officer.

"We have conducted the medical examinations and are awaiting reports from the hospital. Few medical examinations are yet to be conducted and we have asked the parents to accompany their daughter to the
hospital for medical check ups", said the officer.

ND Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone X, said, "We cannot rule out more victims coming forward in the case. The accused is not in the country and we have enquired with the school authorities regarding the incident. We are dealing with the case sensitively and we will soon ask the accused to be present before us to record their statement", said Reddy.

"A case under Sections 376 (2) of the Indian Penal Code for rape, and under relevant Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, has been registered at MIDC police. We are investigating further", said Reddy.

Despite repeated calls and messages, the school management could not be reached for comment.
